Vitézy: Chickens scratch in Érd, this leads to poverty 🐔

Preventing further development of the Balaton shoreline is crucial for the region's sustainable future. Transport and Investment Minister Dávid Vitézy emphasized at the XXXII National Urbanism Conference that the government is creating green urban districts not built solely around car use and is also reviewing the mall-stop regulations. He made a special promise to protect the Balaton shoreline so that the lake area does not become a victim of uncontrolled sprawl.

According to the minister, the urbanization processes of recent decades have been flawed because politics ignored urbanism. This led to family houses being built around major cities and sprawling agglomerations emerging. This model entails higher social costs, as more roads and public institutions must be maintained, while operating mass transit is nearly impossible due to low population density.

In the Balaton region it is especially important to avoid this trap. Sprawling construction not only threatens natural values but also worsens the quality of life for locals: maintaining two cars burdens many families and leads to long-term impoverishment. Vitézy said the rural CSOK also reinforced this process, which is felt in lakeside settlements as well.

The ministry's goal is to speak openly about the problem and create building regulations that also produce a sustainable, livable environment around Balaton. 🌊 This approach not only protects nature but also serves tourism and local communities in the long term.
