Zalaegerszeg nightmare: asbestos invasion! ☠️
⚠️ Streets and car parks in Zalaegerszeg, the western gateway to Lake Balaton, are being closed because of asbestos contamination, which may disrupt lakeside residents and holidaymakers. The city lies near Keszthely and Hévíz where many Balaton visitors shop or relax – closures before summer could cause serious hassle.
Contamination spread from a construction site where asbestos panels were damaged. Authorities are closing four streets and a large car park downtown to stop dangerous particles spreading. Inhaled asbestos is carcinogenic; residents are warned to avoid the area and not sweep dust.
For Balaton travellers this is a double blow: the Zalaegerszeg section of road 7 may be affected, causing jams towards Keszthely and Hévíz. Tourism also suffers as many reach beaches by car and use Zalaegerszeg as a shopping hub. Locals fear wind-borne pollution reaching Balaton airspace. Authorities are measuring air quality; plan alternate routes! 🌊
Closures may last days. Follow local traffic updates.
