Siófok train tragedy: What happened on the tracks? 🚂

BalatonLife

A shocking accident took place in Siófok, the busiest settlement on the southern shore of Lake Balaton: a passenger train ran over a person at Baross Gábor Street, which immediately paralyzed rail traffic in the region. 🚂⚠️ Right in the middle of the holiday season, this particularly affects travelers on the Lake Balaton who arrive by train to the beaches and festivals.

The location of the accident is in the center of Siófok, where the railway line is crucial in connecting the southern shore of Lake Balaton. There were 150 passengers traveling on the train, none of whom were injured, but the train stopped due to the accident. The professional firefighters from Siófok immediately arrived on the scene and helped the passengers land safely. Relief buses were started for them so that they could continue on to Keszthely, Fonyód or Balatonfüred as soon as possible.

The local community and tourists alike are affected by the incident: the Siófok train station is the gateway to Lake Balaton, from where thousands of people leave for trips around the lake every day. Due to the accident, trains can expect significant delays, which affects beachgoers, visitors to Siófok's Golden Beach, as well as local residents commuting to Székesfehérvár or Budapest. In summer traffic, this further increases the burden on bus and car users on route 7, where there are already congestions. The authorities are investigating the circumstances, but the tragedy once again highlights the dangers of railroad crossings on the tourist-dense south coast.

Safe traffic in the Balaton region is vital for the success of the season. Holidaymakers are asked to be careful on the tracks and follow the latest timetable information!
