Siófok: Lebontják a Petőfi sétány bódéit! 🚧
In the whirlwind of the southern shore of Lake Balaton, in Siófok, a radical change is coming: the municipality is planning a complete renovation of the iconic Petőfi promenade, where all the rental stalls standing on the "back of the hill" would be demolished. 🏖️ This step is not just a local matter, but affects lakeside tourism as a whole, as Siófok attracts millions to the shores of Lake Balaton at the peak of the holiday season.
Mayor Róbert Lengyel stressed: they want to create a much more cultured environment so that the promenade is worthy of life on the shores of Lake Balaton. In its current state, the chaotic array of stalls spoils the view, obstructs pedestrian traffic, and can scare away guests looking for quality recreation. According to the plans, the current state would be replaced with green areas, modern infrastructure and a tidy coastal area - just think of how it would look at sunset on the Balaton! 🌅
For the locals, this is real progress: the residents of Siófok have been complaining about the noise, garbage and crowding of the stalls for years, which is unbearable in the summer. Vacationers looking for relaxation on the promenades on the shores of Lake Balaton will appreciate the clean, safe spaces - this can strengthen Siófok's competitiveness with the northern shores, such as Balatonfüred or Balatonalmádi. Tourism can be boosted, bringing a longer season to the region, while the ecological values of the lake shore will also stand out more.
The municipality of Siófok will soon apply for EU funds for implementation, so the Balaton region can monitor the developments. This investment can be an example for other southern coastal settlements, such as Zamárdi or Balatonszárszó, where similar promenade developments could boost beach life.
