Hellfire at Fonyód! 🔥

BalatonLife

A large-scale fire destroyed Fonyód - The firefighters successfully extinguished the flames. The flames broke out on the southern shore of Lake Balaton, near Fonyód, on Saturday afternoon, causing considerable alarm among the residents and vacationers of the area. 🔥

The fire started near road 6701, where about forty hectares of reeds and undergrowth burned. Thanks to the quick intervention, the flames did not spread further and no one was injured. The professional firefighters of Marcal, the municipal fire department of Balatonboglár, as well as the units of the volunteer firefighting associations of Fonyód and DELTA put out a total of five water jets on the fire. The Somogy county disaster prevention operation service led the vaccination work, ensuring a coordinated and effective intervention.

Due to the summer heat and dry weather, the reeds around Lake Balaton are particularly dangerous for needles, where even a spark can quickly turn into a big fire. This case is a reminder that hikers and fishermen should avoid using open flames and report even minor smoke immediately. Fortunately, the fire did not threaten the nearby settlements or the water surface of Lake Balaton, but demolition work is still ongoing at the site to exclude the risk of a restart. ⚠️ According to the disaster management, there is still a risk of fire in the region, so everyone is asked to be extra careful.
