Pools Disguised as Water Reservoirs Uncovered in Tihany 🚨

BalatonLife

One of the most unique parts of the Balaton Uplands, the area around Tihany's Óvár has long attracted attention with its natural beauty and protected status. Now, however, official measures are calling attention to the fact that building regulations in force in the area have not always been complied with.

The authority issued two demolition orders, according to which two pools disguised as water reservoirs must be removed within 180 days. According to building regulations, only economic buildings of up to 80 square meters may be erected in the Óvár area, and the construction of pools is prohibited. Nevertheless, several larger facilities have appeared in the area in recent years.

Those affected include Listig Kft., linked to György Bacsa, CEO of MOL. Several buildings and a pool are located on their plot, and a heritage protection fine of 680,000 forints was also imposed. In the other case, a pool and the building referred to as a summer kitchen must be demolished on the property owned by Zsolt Komonczi, as they do not match the appearance of a water reservoir.

🌊 Protecting the Tihany shoreline and areas belonging to the national park is particularly important for the entire ecosystem of Balaton. Such decisions highlight that the protection of local natural values must remain a priority in the region in the long term.

At the same time, the official action raises the question of how similar cases can be prevented more effectively in the future in the protected zones around Balaton. It is essential for the local community and visitors alike that Óvár and the surrounding areas retain their original character.
