Superbike may be cancelled on the Balaton track in 2027 – what follows? 🏍️

Great hopes were placed on the future of the Balaton Park Circuit in the Balaton region, but now another significant blow has hit the area. According to the official race calendar of the Superbike World Championship, no race will be held on the Balatonfőkajár track in 2027 – similar to MotoGP, which had already signaled its withdrawal earlier.

Several factors lie behind the decision. Safety concerns regarding the track layout had previously been raised by the riders. In addition, state support for the circuit has been significantly reduced following the change of government, as after the dissolution of HUMDA Hungarian Mobility Development Agency, Hungaroring Zrt. only committed to 2026. Liberty Media, which holds the commercial rights to MotoGP and Superbike, has also reviewed the previous agreement covering 2025–2034.

This represents a serious loss for the local community. The Balaton Park Circuit not only attracted motorsport enthusiasts but also offered tourism and economic opportunities for the surrounding settlements. The cancellation of the races could affect the region’s image and the future of investments in the long term 🏍️.
