Balaton: már csak 10 centi a történelmi mélypontig 🌊

Balaton: Only 10 cm Left Until the Historical Low Point 🌊

BalatonLife

The water level of Lake Balaton has now come alarmingly close to the lowest value ever measured, which is a serious warning for both residents and holidaymakers around the lake. The Siófok water gauge showed 33 centimeters on Thursday morning, just ten centimeters from the historical low of 2003, when 23 centimeters were recorded here. 🌊

This situation particularly affects the lakeside settlements, where the shallower shore sections are already becoming visible, and sandbanks are emerging much earlier than usual. Due to the drought period characteristic of the entire Balaton basin, the decrease in water level not only makes water transport more difficult but also affects the usability of the coastal beaches in the coming weeks.

Unfortunately, no significant improvement is expected in the coming period either, no persistent, large amount of rain is arriving. According to forecasts, no precipitation is expected in the coming days that would significantly raise the lake's water level, so stagnation or further slow decline is the most likely scenario in the Balaton region.

This means for local communities and tourism service providers that the changed circumstances must also be taken into account when organizing waterfront programs and planning shipping routes. Meaningful relief could only come from a longer, rainy period, but there is no prospect of this in the Balaton area for the time being.
