A cellar caught fire in Gyulakeszi – what really happened? 🔥
Near the northern shore of Lake Balaton, in Gyulakeszi, flames broke out in a cellar on Csobánchegy. The fire quickly spread to the dry undergrowth and already affected about four hectares of land, causing unrest among locals also due to the nearby settlements, including the popular Badacsony wine region.
The professional firefighters from Keszthely and Badacsonytomaj, as well as the municipal units from Tapolca, are working on site with five water jets to contain the flames. Additional units are also arriving to control the fire as soon as possible before it spreads to a larger area or the nearby forested parts. The holidaymakers on the Balaton shore and residents of the surrounding settlements are not in direct danger for now, but the air quality may temporarily deteriorate in the area due to the smoke.
The rapid intervention of the local fire departments is particularly important now, as many tourists visit the hiking spots around Badacsony and Tapolca during the summer season. The authorities ask hikers to observe the fire ban and follow official information. 🚒
