Siófok home office: why are they working from home at the municipality? 🏖️

BalatonLife

Siófok, one of the most important tourist centers on the southern shore of Lake Balaton, was forced to take unusual steps due to the approaching heatwave. The city management expects near-record values for Tuesday: the daily average temperature may exceed 29 degrees in several places, and the peak may rise above 41 degrees.

Mayor Róbert Lengyel ordered on Monday evening that municipal employees, staff of institutions and city companies continue their activities in home office where personal presence is not necessarily required. At the same time, the fountains were turned off and the water tower was temporarily closed. The goal is clear: to reduce the cooling demand in the empty rooms.

The customer service of the Siófok mayor's office is suspended until Wednesday, but the main entrance of the building remains open until 6 p.m. Locals and Lake Balaton holidaymakers alike can enter the municipal premises and the library to cool off during opening hours.

The extraordinary measures clearly show how seriously one of the most visited settlements on the southern shore takes the prolonged heatwave. For holidaymakers around Lake Balaton, it is particularly important that public institutions still provide some relief from the scorching sun.
