The Zala County Police Headquarters confirmed that the man was detained in Italy on July 7. He was supposed to begin serving a four-and-a-half-year prison sentence but failed to appear for the execution of the judgment. The Zalaegerszeg Court therefore issued an arrest warrant against him. The extradition procedure has already begun, but the date of his return home is not yet known. The man presented himself as the incarnation of Jesus, preaching unconditional love and the rejection of material goods while defrauding his followers of significant sums. For victims living in the Balaton coastal settlements, the realization is particularly painful: many fell under his influence during group events held in the summer months near the lake. Locals are now asking how trust can be restored in communities where the promise of “spiritual guidance” attracted many. The case also highlights that the activities of alternative healers and spiritual groups operating in the Balaton region deserve closer monitoring during the tourist season.
