Surprise at Lake Balaton: Freddie Mercury Statue in Balatonszemes

On the shore of Balatonszemes, one of Lake Balaton’s most popular settlements, the statue of Freddie Mercury was unveiled on Saturday, immediately becoming a meeting point for the local community and Queen fans. The unveiling is not only an artistic event but also a celebration of the Queen camp that has been operating for 32 years and has now grown into a festival on the lakeside.

Thus the third public Freddie Mercury statue in the world has been placed on the Hungarian shore of Lake Balaton: after Montreux and South Korea, Balatonszemes can now also boast the bronze figure of the legendary singer. After the veil fell, locals and holidaymakers alike admired the artwork, which perfectly fits the settlement’s summer atmosphere.

Gyarmati Arnold, president of the Queen Baráti Kör Egyesület and the initiator of the statue, emphasized: “The Queen camp has been operating in Balatonszemes for 32 years and has now grown into a festival. Every year Hungarian and foreign fans arrive, making this a true meeting point where, besides the music, numerous other programs await visitors.”

The unveiling is expected to further strengthen Balatonszemes’ tourist appeal. The lakeside settlement thus becomes an attractive destination not only for beachgoers but also for visitors interested in musical memories, especially during the summer festival season. 🎸🌊
