Locomotive fire at Kelenföld: Balaton trains delayed 🚂

BalatonLife

A locomotive fire at Kelenföld means significant delays and cancelled services for those arriving at or leaving Lake Balaton by train. Both northern and southern shore lines are affected, so passengers on routes to Siófok, Balatonfüred or Keszthely should expect disruption in the coming hours.

According to MÁV, trains are delayed on the Győr, north Balaton, south Balaton and Pécs lines alike. Locally this means commuters from the Budapest agglomeration and weekend holidaymakers may face long waits. Several services are cancelled; replacement buses run but capacity is limited due to sudden demand.

The incident comes at a particularly sensitive time for tourism. Lakeside restaurants, beaches and accommodation providers are preparing for the season start, and rail delays can directly affect guest traffic. Anyone planning to reach Siófok or Balatonalmádi by train should look for alternative transport or allow at least 30–60 minutes extra.

Authorities are working on restoration, but normal timetables may only return later. It is worth monitoring the MÁV app or website for the latest information.
