Why did a car hit the guardrail on the M7 near Lake Balaton?

An accident on the M7 motorway near Balatonfőkajár directly affects traffic heading to the lake – one of the most important routes for holidaymakers and weekend visitors from Budapest. At kilometre 87 a car hit the guardrail on the Budapest-bound side, already slowing traffic towards the northern shore.

Balatonfőkajár municipal firefighters arrived quickly and de-energised the vehicle. The car is blocking one lane, so congestion is expected on the section towards Balatonalmádi and Balatonfüred.

For locals and guests this kind of disruption is especially frustrating on summer weekends when many head home or arrive at the beach. Delays may also lengthen journeys to lakeside towns such as Balatonfőkajár, Lepsény or even Siófok.

Disaster management crews are working on site to restore normal traffic. Until then it is worth choosing alternative routes or postponing departure towards the Balaton. ⚠️
