MÁV: from 1 May extra carriages and Balaton pre-season timetable
From 1 May it will be easier to reach the Balaton
Good news from MÁV for Balaton holidaymakers and lakeside residents: from 1 May the Balaton pre-season timetable begins, with significantly denser services and at least ten percent more seats on trains. Pre-season can already bring real seasonal atmosphere to Balaton stations.
On the Balaton line trains will run more frequently, especially on the Budapest–Siófok–Balatonfüred–Keszthely axis. Thanks to extra carriages seat reservation is easier and railways are better prepared for the summer rush. InterCity and InterRégió trains gain capacity nationwide, but for the Balaton this mainly means capital arrivals can reach the lake more comfortably without overcrowding.
For locals an important change: commuters and Balaton business workers can plan daily life more easily. In Siófok, Balatonlelle, Balatonalmádi or near Tihany many awaited this capacity boost as pre-season bridges quiet spring and summer peak. Anyone coming for a long weekend or transporting staff to lakeside guesthouses now has better chance of a seat and a more flexible timetable.
For tourism this is clear progress. The Balaton is an increasingly popular pre-season destination where guests enjoy the lake without peak crowds and prices. MÁV's step strengthens regional accessibility and helps Balaton visitor numbers gain momentum before the traditional season. 🚄
Capacity expansion shows the railway is seriously preparing for Balaton season. Extra carriages and denser timetables hopefully mean fewer disappointed passengers forced into cars, easing road load around the lake somewhat.
