Kilometre-long jam: Balaton waits, M7 suffers! 🚗

BalatonLife

Bitter news for holidaymakers rushing to the Balaton: a severe jam has formed on the M7 motorway's Budapest-bound lanes, directly affecting those heading to the southern shore towards Siófok or Balatonalmádi. 🚗 Between Velence and Pákozd traffic is already slower due to lane diversion, so Balaton visitors may be hours late for beach or waterfront. 🏖️

According to Mávinform the tailback starts from the capital agglomeration and can halt traffic towards the Balaton Uplands for hours. This is especially oppressive at southern shore towns like Siófok or Zamárdi where weekend rushes are already crowded. Locals – Siófok shopkeepers or Balatonfüred hosts – complain on social media as suppliers and visitors alike get stuck.

Lane diversion narrows the carriageway so trucks and cars crawl together. From a Balaton perspective this is critical: at early summer season jams can deter tourists who seek alternatives like route 7 – which means an even longer detour. Patience is advised, or approach the northern shore via route 71 to avoid shadowing the Balaton weekend.

Balaton traffic again highlights the need for better infrastructure: without improved junctions and widening, lake tourism may keep suffering from the Budapest "filter".
