Balaton railway comes back to life between Veszprém and Ajka 🚂
Good news for transport on Lake Balaton's northern shore: after a year and a half trains are running again between Veszprém and Ajka. Veszprém station is key for guests arriving at the lake, as from here it is easy to reach Balatonfüred, Tihany or even Keszthely. Restarting the line directly helps holidaymakers and locals alike.
In December 2024 a mere 150-metre section had to be closed after a cost-saving solution failed against waterlogging. Sudden flooding caused serious damage and replacement buses ran between the two cities since then. Repairs are now complete and normal timetables should resume for the summer season start 🚂.
Reliable rail links reduce road traffic on routes to the Balaton, especially welcome during heavy weekend flows. Residents of nearby towns can reach work or shops faster, while tourists can plan sustainable travel to the shore. 🌊
Overall the line's restart strengthens the Balaton region's accessibility and helps ensure the area is comfortable to visit by train as well as by car.
