Drama on the M7: car hits barrier near Lake Balaton 🚗
On one of the busiest access routes to Lake Balaton's southern shore, on the M7 motorway towards the border near Zamárdi, a car hit the crash barrier and overturned. The incident directly affects holidaymakers heading to the lake and local daily traffic, as this section is the main artery for traffic from Budapest.
Two people were in the vehicle and left the scene after the crash. Siófok professional firefighters arrived and de-energised the car stopped in the hard shoulder. Authorities warn of traffic restrictions on the affected lane, which can particularly affect drivers heading to lakeside towns at summer weekends 🚗.
The accident may also affect tourism in Zamárdi and surrounding southern shore towns, as many guests use this route to reach beaches and accommodation. Lane closures or slowdowns mean longer travel times for both locals and weekend visitors.
Firefighters' swift response is reassuring for the region: incidents on the M7 often cause hours of congestion around the lake. It is worth choosing alternative routes or main road 7 if heading to Siófok, Zamárdi or nearby beaches.
