Slippery Sunday: sleet rain alert for Balatonnyugat! ❄️
❄️ The western shore of Lake Balaton is threatened with heavy rain on Sunday: a yellow alert has been issued for the area of Keszthely, Hévíz and the surrounding settlements. This is particularly risky for Balatonians and winter vacationers, as slippery roads can make driving on highway 71 and coastal access roads difficult.
According to the meteorological service, in the tin rain from Saturday night to Sunday morning, up to 1-2 mm of ice may form on trees and infrastructure. Due to the phenomenon affecting the western basin of Balaton, the coastal settlements of Somogy and Zala, such as Balatonederics or Gyenesdiás, may also be affected. The ice sheet forming on the surface of the lake receives an additional load, which can worsen the ice situation in the ports.
Local effects: Bridges and winding serpentines will be dangerous for Balaton drivers, especially on the roads leading to Hévíz. Accommodation providers involved in winter tourism and thermal bath users are advised to be careful: check your tires and avoid unnecessary roads! 🌨️ Fishermen and lifeguards also warn: double risk for those walking on the ice of the lake.
The municipalities on the Balaton shore put up salting and warning signs. Follow the authorities' advice for a safe weekend!
