Balaton nightmare: Pestilence of wild boars in 3 years! 🐗
The settlements on the shores of Balaton are in immediate danger: if we do not act immediately, within 3-4 years wild boars with plague may roam around Siófok, Keszthely or Balatonfüred. 🐗 The African swine fever raging in Baranya is heading north, and the Balaton region - with the counties of Somogy, Veszprém, and Zala - may be on the front line.
More and more infected wild boars are found in Baranya, where there are no mountains or rivers to stop the migration of wild boars. According to experts, the virus can quickly spread to the northeast, reaching the Balaton highlands. The seriousness of the problem is increased by the fact that many pig farmers and the meat industry trivialize the threat - even though Easter ham prices are already fluctuating, which also affects Balaton markets and restaurants.
For the locals, this is a disaster: wild boar hunting, which is popular around Lake Balaton, may stop, and agriculture will be damaged if the virus spreads to domestic pigs. Vacationers, beware! The safety of meat consumed on beaches and barbecue parties is threatened by the epidemic, which may scare away tourists during the summer season. ⚠️ The farmers and hunters of the region must now strengthen the fences and control the game - otherwise the Balaton idyll will take a dark turn.
Balatonlife urges the local authorities to increase monitoring and inform the communities. The hunting areas of Somogy and Veszprém already require more frequent checks to protect our landscape and our guests.
