Balaton surprise on Samu's baby elephant birthday! 🐘

BalatonLife

Joy for Balaton Uplands fans: Samu, the popular baby elephant at Budapest Zoo, has turned five and will soon move to Veszprém, heart of the Balaton's north shore. 🐘 This change colours zoo life and adds new appeal to regional tourism, as Veszprém's Kittenberger Zoo lies just kilometres from Balatonfüred and nearby beaches.

Samu was celebrated in Budapest with a special fruit cake and carers' affection. The five-year-old bull is now old enough for a new home to continue developing among peers. Experts decided relocation is needed due to space limits in the capital, so Samu joins two other elephants in Veszprém.

A real highlight for the Balaton region. Veszprém, gateway to the Bakony and cultural centre of the lake, draws tens of thousands yearly – families and holidaymakers alike. Imagine visiting Samu playfully waving during a Balaton holiday! This enlivens traffic in Balatonfüred, Csopak and Tihany as zoo trips complement shore walks and swimming. Locals benefit too: more jobs, more visitors – double joy in peak summer. 🎉

Veszprém's zoo is known for diverse animals; Samu's arrival should bring record attendance, boosting the Balaton-area economy. Planning a holiday? Subscribe to the zoo newsletter – you might see the little giant in his first days!
