Car vs guardrail: drama on road 8 to the Balaton! 💥

Holidaymakers rushing to Balatonalmádi or Csopak on the northern shore faced an obstacle Saturday afternoon when a car hit the guardrail on main road 8 at kilometre 43 on Veszprém outskirts. Traffic runs on one lane on this key route to the lake region. 🚗⚠️

Veszprém professional firefighters de-energised the damaged car quickly. Police and ambulance also responded. No reports of serious injury, but jams could last hours.

Mid-summer, such incidents hit hard. Road 8 is the main artery from Veszprém towards lakeside towns, so the half-lane section delayed travellers to Almádi, Füred and beaches. Locals commute daily; tourists lose holiday time. Alternatives such as roads 71 or 73 are recommended. Disaster units say traffic has improved but caution remains.
