Bed linen ghost hostel is destroyed in Almadi 🏚️
One of the gems of the southern shore of Lake Balaton, the former postman's resort in the middle of Balatonalmádi has been destroyed for six years, which not only affects the local community badly, but can also worsen traffic during the holiday season. 🏚️ The ideally located building in the heart of the city sits empty, while due to the boom in tourism on the Lake Balaton, it would be urgent to utilize such valuable properties.
The Hungarian post office closed the resort in 2018, citing cost reduction, where even today the bedclothes in many rooms have not been removed, and the furniture and kitchen equipment are dusty. The municipality of the settlement would turn the complex into a home for the elderly in order to alleviate local social needs, but several interested parties - including hotel owners and investors - tried to contact the post office or the city, but received no response. This passivity slows down developments in Balatonalmádin, where the number of holidaymakers grows every year.
It is a particularly painful sight for the local residents: the deterioration of the building in the center of Balatonalmád spoils the town's image, while it could become an ideal place to stay due to the attractiveness of the lakeside promenades and beaches. Vacationers lose the opportunity to have an authentic, green area of rest, which would create jobs during the season. In the Balaton region, where tourism is the engine of the economy, such neglected properties hinder sustainable development and raise questions about asset management. If no progress is made, the problem could become an example in other coastal settlements. 🏖️
